Assignment 5 – Love Theme Cards
Last week’s lecture was on the second part of principles of visual comunication; colors. Besides visual elements, balance and harmony, colors play an important part in conveying messages too. We were taught on the basic colors, the color wheel and the color schemes, which are used to aid the information presentation and the message that is to be conveyed in a picture. Color schemes can create contrast, harmony, and should be used appropriately according to color psychology. Another interesting topic! We were given the topic for the next assignment; a greeting card with a love theme, and we were to design two cards as roughs for the next tutorial. Its pretty hard to design a card that is something original, since there are thousands of love/Valentine’s Day cards out there. My ideas came while I was taking bus back home. hah. I decide to use contrast with abit of harmony for one card, and monochromatic colors for another card.
Here are my two designs, which I have presented on the last tutorial:
The card has been edited. Initially there’s a rose in the middle, but somehow many got distracted by that rose. Thus I decided to use another ribbon to replace the rose. Others suggested the wordings can change to something that relates to the picture. I’m still working on that hah. Any other comments just post them up!
More of my peers prefer this card. Some suggested that the color of the background should show a little contrast with the foreground. But I think this will defeat the purpose for using monochromatic colours as my design concept. Maybe I shall use other kinds of pink of to display that.. Still working on it. My tutor, Alfred, suggested that the wordings can be improved. Wordings are important since it is a greeting card. Guess I must work on it. Initially the top left, and the bottom right are vertical, peers find that there is inconsistency because my cover is alrdy in horizontal position. I find that weird too, thus I’ve changed everything to horizontal position. Any comments for this post them up as well!
Shall update if I’ve made any other changes on the cards.
